Applications are now open

Tasmanian primary and secondary schools are invited to apply for grants of up to $1,500 to deliver practical, student-led sustainability projects.

Delivered by Keep Australia Beautiful Tasmania and supported by the Tasmanian Government and Hydro Tasmania, the program encourages projects that improve the environment while engaging students in hands-on learning, leadership, and teamwork.

Applications close on Wednesday 8th April 2026.

What can be funded?

Funding can support a wide range of sustainability initiatives, including:

♻ Waste reduction and recycling programs
🌱 School gardens and composting systems
🐝 Biodiversity and habitat projects
🌏 Environmental education initiatives
💧 Water and energy conservation activities
✨ Other creative, student-led initiatives

Past projects have included school gardens, recycling programs, and beekeeping initiatives.

How applications are assessed

Applications will be assessed on:

  • Clear sustainability outcomes
  • Student involvement and participation
  • Defined and realistic use of funds
  • Practical and achievable project delivery
  • Ability to report on results

To help more schools participate, we ask applicants to consider the costing of projects carefully. Projects that do not require the full $1,500 may be viewed more favourably, but applying for the full grant is absolutely fine if needed.

All grant recipients will have the exciting opportunity to create a short video (around 3 minutes) showcasing their project. These videos will be featured in our Showcase Webinar to be held in November 2026, giving students the spotlight to share their creativity, teamwork, and sustainability achievements with schools across Tasmania.
