Adding to this, over 20 years working in media and newsrooms across Australia have honed his ability to deliver clear, engaging communication and storytelling. Val Southam has dedicated more than three decades to advancing not-for-profit organisations in the recycling, waste management and environmental sectors.

Beginning her career in recycling in the late 1980s, she has served on numerous boards and spent 15 years as CEO of the Waste Management Association of Australia.

Val is currently the Executive Director and CEO of Keep Australia Beautiful (NSW) Ltd, where she has been a board member since 2004 and former Chairman.

Highly respected across government and industry, she has contributed extensively to national product stewardship through several ministerial advisory appointments.

Sophie Bennett is a recent Business and Law graduate from the University of Tasmania and a Masters of Law graduate from the College of Law.

She is an aspiring lawyer with a strong interest in the intersection of law, environment, and broader ESG (environmental, social and governance) issues.

She is particularly passionate about ethics, culture, sustainability and risk governance and how these areas shape responsible decision-making within organisations. Sophie is driven to build a legal career that contributes to more sustainable, ethical and accountable business practices.

Tom is a Director at Keep Australia Beautiful – Tasmania. He began his career as a teacher before working extensively across the outdoor and adventure tourism sector. Across these roles, he developed strong capability in leadership, environmental stewardship, and community engagement, and was recognised for excellence in outdoor education.

Tom has held senior executive and governance roles across the sporting, community and not-for-profit sectors. He brings particular strength in strategy, governance and organisational performance, with experience leading statewide initiatives, securing funding growth, and strengthening organisational capability and impact.

He is currently serving as an Aide-de-Camp as a Captain in the Australian Army and undertaking an MBA, further strengthening his strategic and operational expertise. His experience includes advisory and governance support within high-accountability public sector environments, with strong capability in stakeholder engagement and risk mitigation.

Miranda Ransome is an experienced company director with extensive governance, business and senior executive leadership experience across the waste management, environmental services and not-for-profit sectors.

She holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical) with Honours and an MBA, and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Miranda has served as President and Chair of national peak bodies including the Waste Management & Resource Recovery Association of Australia and Ice Hockey Australia, and has chaired multiple Audit, Risk, Nominations and Remuneration Committees.

Her career includes over 20 years as a business owner and senior executive, driving sustainable operations, strong financial performance and sound governance.
