Clarendon Vale School’s commitment to sustainability is wonderfully demonstrated by thecare and detail that goes into how they integrate food and healthy eating into school and community life. The school grows food in a garden they share with community group GROW. The school and community have combined working bees.
The weekly lunchtime Garden Club ‘Green Team’ is a popular activity and students of all ages are keen to participate. From community composting to bees wax wraps and collecting plastic bread tags for recycling, the students are making valuable contributions to not only their school but their home lives as well.
‘Love in a Lunchbox’ is a successful community expo which has been running for 3 years. Over 3 days students from a number of schools are able to taste healthy lunchbox options, prepared by parents in workshops. Families gain new ideas about how to improve nutrition, save money and reduce packaging.
At Clarendon Vale Primary, food security is treated not just a fun activity but essential to the health and sustainability of the whole community.
