Warrane Primary School is on a winning streak, having also recently won ‘Most Environmentally Friendly Canteen Award presented by the Tasmanian School Canteen Association.
The school is dedicated to reducing single use plastic and uses bees wax wraps and reusable bowls in the canteen.There are compost bins in each classroom and the staff room and the school also participates in the Terracycle Oral Care program where items such as toothbrushes and toothpaste tubes are collected for recycling.
The school has an extensive and productive 24 Carrot Garden as well as a bushtucker garden under construction. Lots of delicious and nutritious meals are prepared by the students, using the produce from the garden. The students kitchen skills will serve them for life and by using produce they grow themselves, they are actively contributing to a more sustainable world by reducing the food miles and carbon footprint of their meals
