The revitalisation of the local Country Women's Association (CWA) is an inspiring and successful project for Bridport. With a new committee and a much needed increase in membership the next step involved renovating and extending the CWA Hall. The CWA building renovation and extension project received a much appreciated grant from the Tasmanian Community Fund. Bridport CWA's mantra is community over profit and accordingly the grant application was celebrated with a family friendly celebration called ‘Making a Village’. This event was held in conjunction with an art display and the Bridport Textile Group’s annual quilt and craft show. Bridport CWA is looking forward to an exciting future and hopes the improved hall and facilities with be used by the whole community.
Another Bridport project is the outrageously successful Tassie Scallop Fiesta. A small army of volunteers created an immediate hit on the somewhat crowded Tassie festival circuit. In the middle of winter people come in their thousands to the Tassie Scallop Fiesta. They sample awarding winning scallop pies and the creations of celebrity chefs. The entertainment ranges from kayak balletto scallop - splitting races and music well into the night.
