Eco-Schools in Tasmania

The Eco-Schools program was introduced to Tasmanian schools at the end of Term 3, 2014. The Eco-Schools program is delivered in Australia through Keep Australia Beautiful. The Tasmanian Education Department has provided written support for the delivery of the program.

Teachers have expressed their appreciation to discover a program that fills the gap created by the departure of the AuSSI program from the state many years ago.  Within the 10 weeks of Term 4, 2014, 14 schools registered as Eco-Schools. Workshops are held throughout the year and around the state for interested schools as well as registered schools. These are held after school and aim to have
a webinar option for teachers who are unable to attend the location. The objectives of these workshops are:

  • to increase teacher’s knowledge of the program
  • to develop teacher networks, and
  • share ideas
